SPRING/SUMMER 2010 TREND REPORT

I recently attended the Fashion Group International's Spring/Summer 2010 (SS10) forecast evening. Now, I am a little behind in delivering you the SS10 low-down - I'll be reporting the AW11 trends to you before mid-May!!

Now, I am a little behind in delivering you the SS10 low-down - as you probably know the northern hemisphere is always a season ahead of the southern hemisphere...so this is short notice for our northern hemisphere friends who are lucky to be heading into the long hot Summer... (I'm jealous!).

For us southern hemisphere kids, I'll be posting a recap of AW10 trends shortly AND then there will be one for all of us: I'll be reporting the AW11 trends before mid-May!!

• Socks with sky-scraper heels. No longer a domain for nerds and daggy uncles, fashion houses including Alexander Wang, Hermes, Karen Walker, Anna Sui, Betsey Johnson and Dior all produced their own fabulous takes on this. My personal favorite here is the Alexander Wang approach - long washed out grey socks, finishing just under the knee shown in picture.
• Although it BREAKS my heart to say it - flats are back. I'm going to put this down to classic Summer dressing rather than a trend to end our 5 inch heel love affair. As reflected in my first dot-point - in my opinion there was still A LOT of sky-scraper heel going on.
• Wedges: again a Summer staple. the cork wedge is in for SS10. My advice to you on this? keep the upper BOLD. When you have that much sole going on, you're going to need to balance it out! try for thick straps, buckles or a very covered upper (think Alexander Wang Alla peep-toe wedges) or lots of gathered material straps (think Fendi tulle-embellished suede sandals)

  

  

• As for colour: as we shake off the worst of the GFC, dark colours are being cast away in favour of the light-hearted and feminine. Shoe yourself in the heroine colours of the season: pastel peach and nude! The palette also includes: lemon, orange, rusty orange/browns, blue-green, scarlet and of course, purple.
