This past week has seen the Paris haute couture shows take place. I adore haute couture - the opulence and daring nature of it (as opposed to the more trend-based ready-to-wear show) is “...meant to make people dream" said Giambattista Valli, who made his haute couture debut this year. He also articulated the distinction between haute couture and ready-to-wear so well: "Ready-to-wear and couture are two different moments of the same woman," said Mr. Valli. "Ready-to-wear has a message, a trend. Couture is timeless, classic."
So instead of trying to force trends upon this event, we’ve singled out the Dior show for this post, to share some of the looks that made us sit up at our desks and rethink our wardrobe.
Full of incredible shapes built on full circle skirts, I really enjoyed this animal-referenced black and white print skirt.

Garments weren't the only overly-textural aspect of these looks - have a look at this incredible hair and make-up!

There were also some very wearable pieces, like this one that I am currently coveting:

Which I am sure I would love to wear with these shoes:

And then there were pieces that had incredible theatre, humour, flair and imagination that were so enjoyable!

What are your thoughts on haute couture? Do you love the creativity? Or would you prefer to only see more wearable pieces?
