NEW YORK FASHION WEEK: DEREK LAM

New York fashion week has again been and gone, and I wanted to share with you some of the looks from Derek Lam's collection. Why just Lam? I'll admit that there were so many exciting shows to cover, but I just love that's Lams collections have such well-designed simplicity, incredibly luxurious materials and are... wearable!

The Spring Summer 2012 collection feels like a step into retro poolside glamour, without any of the unintended subtext of being outdated - everything from the collection is confident, modern and luxe. Created with clean lines and an indent palette of tangerine, pale blue and citrus yellow, Lam cleverly wove blocks of bold colour with tiled patterning that left me feeling like I could both wear this right off the runway, and feel completely up-to-date!

Here is one of my favorites:

Now, shoes to match these looks - I would work with fairly simple shapes to compliment the simplicity of the lines in Lam's collections. I'd work with a palette of: white soft leather, black soft leather, croc-embossed black patent leather, dark tan soft leather, yellow soft leather and light blue soft leather.

Lastly, here's a shot of the man himself. I just love to the double-handed wave - kind of reminds me of that moment in the movie "Love Actually" were the Hugh Grant character (the British Prime Minister) lament's the need to come up with a more serious wave - very endearing ;)

I hope you feel inspired by these beautiful colours and simple lines!
