The Olympics are to sport what fashion week is to people watching. And that alone is enough to strike fear into the heart of the most seasoned fashionista. But, as Paris Hilton says (yes, Paris Hilton), the rule is "don’t be boring and dress cute wherever you go. Life is too short to blend in."
With that in mind, Shoes of Prey co-founder, Jodie Fox, reveals what she wore and the the ingenious styling tricks that helped her fit in and stand out all at once at Australian Fashion Week.
STYLING TIP #1: Fancy on the bottom = keep it simple on top.
"This outfit is all about the shoes - clearly! These are from our collaboration with Romance Was Born and I love how they move like little sea creatures as you walk. Whenever I'm wearing show-pony shoes I always give them room to breathe - so a skirt with a knee-length hem or above is essential. On top, I keep it simple. I'm blessed with a small chest (holler if you feel me, ladies!) and this stretch bustier from Nasty Gal is simple but fills out in the right places."
STYLING TIP #2: Mix sporty and girlie with leather
"I fell in love with the clashing floral print of this Romance Was Born top the second I saw it, but the sporty trim isn't my usual style. Determined to make it work, I discovered my trusty old leather skirt was the perfect way to work it into my wardrobe. Sophisticated and sexy, the subtle lustre of leather elevates the sportiness into luxury territory and links it to these ultra girlie Shoes of Prey x Romance Was Born ruffled heels."
STYLING TIP #3: Black is the ultimate fashion statement
"Yes, colour is in (and I love it!) but there's nothing that says "boss" like smart, simple, don't-mess-with-me black. With a black bag, shrug and shoes, I was able to pull out the craziest dress I own and transform it into a chic and (almost) demure statement that gave me the confidence I needed to face a room of editors."
