STYLE SPOTTING: CANNES FILM FESTIVAL FASHION

Zoe Saldana looking extraordinary in red and white. Don't you love her black and white peeptoe stilettos?

What’s not to love about Cannes? The romance of Spring in France, the hype of new movies (what will succeed? what will fail?) and not least, the fashion...

If you're a little like me, you might be wondering about how Cannes came to be the fashion calendar event that it is today. The first festival was held in 1946 (it was supposed to be 1939, but was postponed because of the war). It was an initiative to establish an international cultural event in France to rival the Venice Film Festival. Very shortly after its genesis Cannes became a staple in the celebrity calendar with guests such as Sophia Loren, Grace Kelly and Brigitte Bardot in attendance throughout the 1950s.

This year again the celebrity attendance was nothing short of spectacular and the dresses were divine. Here are a few of our favorites:

It would be remiss of me not to start this post with celebrity royalty, Angelina. She's looking statuesque, confident and incredible in this Atelier Versace dress, which deceptively is a dark brown colour, rather than black as I thought on first seeing this image. Sadly there's no peek of her shoes, but I would have worn something like this:

4.5 inch patent leather peeptoe stilettos

The stunning Salma Hayek wore a strapless champagne silk Gucci gown with an embroidered bustier that draped over a long pleated skirt.

Again no shoes are visible, but if I was styling, these are the ones I would have chosen something a little fun and sparkly like this:

4.5 inch gold glitter peeptoe stilettos

I'm including Uma because I am in awe of how fresh and stunning she always looks, even off-guard, not to mention her gorgeous heels!

Chinese actress and singer Fan Bing Bing had some impactful and exciting gowns including this one from Atelier Versace:

Surely her shoes would have been something like this!

And lastly, model Candice Boucher, for a few reasons: firstly, she's stunning! Secondly, it's great to see some of the looks worn off the red-carpet. Thirdly because I have recently been obsessed with finding the perfect lace dress (though I admit this dress is not as famous as the other lace dress Candice wore on the Canne red carpet this year!!) and lastly because those shoes are so much like our gladiators, which are my every-day staple shoe!

Well, I am off to keep dreaming about Cannes - I hope you enjoyed!
