Vegan shoes are made without any animal ingredients or byproducts in any components of the shoes, from the material that sits over your foot and is visible to the eye, to the lining that touches your foot, the sole that touches the ground and even the glue that is used in constructing the shoe.
OUR VEGAN RANGE
At Shoes of Prey we’ve sourced a range of gorgeous animal-free alternatives for leather, suede and silk which you can use when designing your shoes.
We also only use animal-free glues across our full range of shoes allowing you to design 100% vegan flats, vegan heels, vegan sandals and vegan boots.
WHAT IS MICROFIBER LEATHER?
For our vegan leathers we use a material called microfibre leather. Microfiber leather is a synthetic leather made using high grade polyurethane resin and ultra fine microfiber bundles which are combined to mimic the microscopic structure of leather.
The technology used to produce microfibre leather is relatively new and it results in an end product with a similar amino structure to genuine leather.Comparing vegan leather versus regular leather, they’re both:
- lightweight, soft and smooth
- excellent scratch, tear, and abrasion resistance
- easy to clean
- good breathability
- non fading
- good tensile strength
- antibacterial, anti-mildew
- 100% animal free!
WE ONLY USE QUALITY MICROFIBRE LEATHER
Microfibre leather is a significant step up in quality from the manmade materials used in cheaper synthetic shoes, sometimes referred to as “PU”. Microfibre leather and PU both have a PU coating/film on one surface which helps create the aesthetic leather look. However, regular PU has a thin coagulated/or woven base (total thickness around 0.5mm) whereas microfibre leather has a fibrous structure which mimics the functionality of leather. The microfibre Shoes of Prey sources is also much thicker at 1mm giving it the structure and feel of leather.
SHOES OF PREY VEGAN LEATHERS
Any materials in our designer marked ‘vegan’ are made from microfibre leather and we have a great range of color options for you to choose from for all the different parts of your shoe, including our super soft vegan lining options. It’s also worth noting that our standard beige and black soles are vegan.
In addition to our materials specifically marked ‘vegan’, a number of other materials in our range are also vegan:
1. Our "Sparkle" materials
2. Our "Satin" materials (note that our silks aren’t vegan)
3. Anything marked "Print"
At Shoes of Prey we're very proud that all of our vegan materials above, as well as our microfibre leather are approved by PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals). So if you design your shoes using these materials you can be assured of having beautiful, high quality 100% animal-free shoes made for you.
